K-Pop Classes in Vancouver and burnaby

Yunik (pronounced "yoo-neek") is a drop in Kpop Dance Studio located in Downtown Vancouver and Burnaby. We offer weekly Kpop dance classes for teens and adults!

Most of our students are 15+ with 0-3 years of recreational dance experience. We learn the same choreography that Kpop artists perform in their music videos and live stages, that way you can dance like your favorite K-Pop idol! In the past, we have learned choreography from well-known Kpop groups such as BTS, EXO, and Twice, to name just a few.

What is K-POP?

K-Pop (or Korean Popular Music) is an increasingly popular genre of music that is not limited to a specific type of song or dance. Though K-pop includes a variety of styles, these songs are always catchy and often feature choreography that matches the song well. From signature moves that go viral online to the repetition of chorus sections, K-Pop is eye-catching and challenging while remaining enjoyable for any level of dance experience.

Hi there! My name is Yun and I am the founder of Yunik (pronounced "yoo-neek") Dance! Originally from Korea, I began dancing at 6 years old and continued in Vancouver when I moved here with my family at the age of 9. I trained in several different styles including Ballet, Contemporary, and Lyrical throughout my childhood. When I was 14, I decided that I no longer wanted to train at the pre-professional level and stopped dancing altogether.

However, my love was rekindled a few years later when I chose dance as an elective in high school. It was during this time that “Gangnam Style” by PSY went viral. My teacher asked me to teach the dance to my class for a school-wide performance and suddenly, my journey as a dance instructor had begun!

In my university years, I started to formally train in Hip Hop and went on to dance with multiple teams. I competed both locally and internationally at competitions such as World of Dance, VIBE, and the Australian Dance Crew Championships. My dance experience has also been influenced by my time spent abroad. I’ve been lucky to travel and live in several countries including Korea, Japan, China, Hong Kong, Australia, and the USA, where I trained with some of the world’s top choreographers – a few of which were trainers for major K-Pop Entertainment companies such as SM, JYP, Hybe, Cube, and more.

In 2018, I began teaching K-Pop to an adult student in Australia, and this was when I truly discovered my passion for teaching. Upon my return to Vancouver, I started teaching K-Pop and Hip Hop classes at multiple studios across the Lower Mainland for ages 3 and up. I also have collaborated with the official BTS Vancouver fan group and local high schools to host K-Pop Workshops.

I love teaching and I especially enjoy teaching beginners. Helping my students grasp complex dance movements and watching them gain confidence are among the most rewarding aspects of my work. I hope that through my dance classes, you will find your love of dance as well!
